| Mock-Ups 1995 - 2007 | A facade of glass and dark stone, freshly separated from the scaffolding—what we today call a mock-up. A group of mock-ups stand at the construction site, lined up like soldiers, until the final decision of the builder and investors is made. Using a full-sized model, the builder must decide which building face works best. Pictured in the photograph are five time-consumingly built mock-ups of varying types of façade in the midst of the churned-up earth of the waste land.
Stefanie Bürkle has discovered and photographed more than 30 such “Potemkin villages” in Berlin. Her work represents a virtual catalogue for a city of backdrops in which we have now come to live.
